What Will I be Doing?

The Sr Analyst Tax for indirect tax will be primarily responsible for the preparation and review of various transactional tax return filings. The tax filings will include state, county and city filings for various indirect taxes and licenses including but not limited to transient accommodations, sales, use, hospitality, liquor and communications tax types. Also required is the reconciliation of tax work papers to the general ledger, tax rate maintenance, and any special projects that may arise. The position includes assisting with processes and audits, audit defense, and audit management. As a part of the HGV Corporate Tax Department, this position will interact with multiple departments within the HGV organization and multiple team members within the HGV Corporate Tax Department.

You are responsible for driving company success through performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual transient accommodations, sales, use, hospitality, liquor and communications tax returns for multiple states, counties and cities
  • Reconcile tax workpapers used as support for tax filings to general ledger
  • Maintain a tax calendar with jurisdictions, form numbers and due dates to ensure timely filed returns
  • Respond to and resolve tax notices and communicate with taxing jurisdictions as necessary
  • Identify and communicate changes to indirect tax rates and taxing guidelines
  • Monitor, research, and interpret state, county and city tax laws, regulations, and pronouncements to ensure that the company is compliant
  • Utilize ERP system as needed to confirm information gathered and journal entry review
  • Be a resource to Tax Analysts and other individuals within the HGV organization
  • Assist with research topics and special projects, involving HGV tax and/or outside service providers including audits
  • Utilize various software common to tax
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Strive for process efficiency and support the use of new technology improvements
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment involving competing deadlines

To fulfill this role successfully, the individual should possess the following qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience in a corporate or public accounting firm
  • Solid understanding of indirect tax principles
  • Computer proficiency, specifically with MS Excel and MS Word
  • Ability to interpret the company’s books and records and transactional accounting
  • Independent and self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and prevent potential problems
  • Ability to work well under pressure to effectively handle multiple concurrent demands and appropriately prioritize responsibilities

In addition, the following qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience are preferred:

  • Experience with Oracle, Alteryx, OneSource Tax Calendar, Power BI, and Bloomberg Tax Research Library
  • Experience with the hospitality industry taxation is a plus
