Responsibilities
- Assist with patient personal hygiene and grooming according to hospital procedures in a reasonable amount of time.
- Change bed linens and removes soiled linen according to hospital procedure.
- Assist patients with ambulation, transfer, and repositioning using proper body mechanics and protecting patients from falls or injury.
- Assist patients with meals and fluid intake; measure totals and documents intake according to hospital procedure.
- Assist patient with elimination and measures and documents total output according to hospital procedures.
- Assist with maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Assist with special procedures as instructed by the registered nurse and according to hospital procedures.
- Obtain vital signs following standard procedure (respirations, pulse, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, temperature, pain level) and document in the electronic medical record per policy
- Promptly report any vital sign that is outside of the patient baseline limits as identified by the RN
- Perform point-of-care blood glucose monitoring following correct policy and procedure guidelines
- Perform other non-direct patient care activities as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Pascack Valley Medical Center (PVMC) policies, procedures, and protocols that pertain to proper patient care within the scope of responsibility of the Patient Care Assistant (PCA)
- Demonstrate understating of the role of the PCA in responding to patient care emergencies and other PVMC facility alerts
- Recognize the importance of patient satisfaction with each patient and family encounter
- Promptly report to the RN any concern relating to patient care safety and patient satisfaction issues
- Demonstrate understanding of responsibility as a PCA in following relevant policies and procedures to meet the National Patient Safety Goals.
- Follow the guidance of the RN in ensuring that the established plan of care of the patient is delivered as intended
- Demonstrate required competencies for the PCA
- Demonstrate commitment to his or her personal and professional growth by ensuring attendance to educational activities and competency validation program.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- 1– 2 years patient care experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC)
Preferred Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Hospital experience
- CNA certification or equivalent
