Who we’re looking for
Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) Battery Production Engineering (PE) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineering Manager.
This position is located at Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) and reports to a TMNA Battery PE Senior Engineering Manager.
What you’ll be doing
Lead a Production Engineering capital project team responsible for specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and pre-production trials of battery manufacturing equipment for a specific operation area, i.e. electrode, cell assembly, electrolyte fill, formation or module.
Take accountability for achieving project objectives, deliverables, and success criteria pertaining to safety, quality, sustainability, schedule, budget and compliance.
Develop and deliver equipment that is ever-more simple, easy-to-use and trouble-free.
Empower team members with challenging assignments and opportunities to grow.
Model the Toyota Way and coach problem solving using Toyota Business Practice.
Engage with customers and stakeholders to promote collaboration and alignment.
Continuously improve business processes and procedures.
​What you bring
Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or similar technical degree
Experience performing specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and/or pre-production trials of manufacturing equipment for production of 50,000+ units per year or 1,000,000 pounds of chemical per year
Experience managing complex new model launch or capital projects including schedule control, budget discipline and cross-functional coordination
Experience in a lead role for a job site during construction and/or retrofit of industrial machinery, including construction safety incident prevention
Experience preparing and presenting professional technical reports to an executive audience
Ability to work off-shift, weekend and shutdown work as needed, including business travel, both domestic and international, up to 25%
Experience practicing Toyota Production System or equivalent lean manufacturing
Experience in a management role with responsibility for direct reports or as a Toyota sub-lead role

Advanced degree or professional certification in a relevant field
Experience in the development, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and/or operation in at least two of the following processes specifically intended for the manufacture of batteries for electrified vehicle drivetrains
Slurry mixing
Coating/drying
Solvent recovery
Calendering
Slitting/notching
Winding or web management
Laser and/or ultrasonic welding
Vacuum drying
Electrolyte injection
Formation/aging
Experience in the research and development of battery cells for electrified vehicle drivetrains
Experience in a role applying the following skills relevant to the design and/or manufacture of battery cells.
Materials science, electrochemistry, or chemistry
Battery cell teardown and characterization
Integrated problem-solving using data from machine sensors, quality control software, and diagnostic tools
Process hazard analysis, failure prevention, and environmental health and safety
Experience with On-the-Job Development (OJD) Training and course work (Toyota Team Members Only)
Experience with process improvement tools/activities such as Material Information Flow Chart (MIFC) or Jishuken (Toyota Team Members Only)
